Review- Warning: this book was such a chick lit (all of Abbi Glines books are)

I'm giving this book a 4.7/5 (not a 4.5).  Reason being, I enjoyed the ending but it felt a bit rushed.  It was still a good ending, but it was a bit more predictable and cliche compared to the rest of the book.  If you're like me and you love romances, you'll enjoy this one!

I admired many qualities in Sadie; her strength and independence being the two stand out the most.  She was naive but her resilience made up for that.  Her issues at home kept her from living a typical seventeen-year-old's life.  She kept to herself to avoid attention and anymore pain that may come her way.  Although Sadie faced many struggles in her life, she was able to bounce back and continue living her life.

Jax faced alternate pressures.  He felt as if he had no one who genuinely cared for him and his wellbeing.  And he didn't have someone to share his thoughts with.  Luckily, he met Sadie who was able to bring meaning to his music.  The one issue I had with Jax was how he treated his mother.  Glines didn't touch on the subject too much but I was bothered by the fact that he felt the need to "put her in her place".  Just because he funded the bills didn't give him the right to be rude.  Like I said, the author didn't discuss his relationship with his mother too much so maybe there was more to the story. However, I'm still not a fan of authoritative demeanor toward her.

The idiom, "Give an inch, take a mile" applies to Sadie's mom, Jessica.  I couldn't stand her.  This has nothing to do with the writing.  I understand her crucial role as a character so I'm not bother by her reasoning for being in the book; my reasoning is Sadie's mom was a terrible mother.  I have never personally been through anything nearly as difficult as Sadie but I've seen a very similar situation affect a loved one's life.  That's probably why I had such a hard time dealing with Jessica.  She was incompetent, irresponsible, lazy, and careless.  I get that she has probably dealt with a lot growing up, but she needed to get her shit together before Sadie was born.  Sadie supported herself and her mother (plus, she had to prepare for her new sibling).  She never asked for much and did what she was told.  That's the one thing that annoyed me about Sadie; she did whatever her mom asked her to do.

Although I was not the biggest fan of the way it wrapped up, the love story in this book was well done.  I felt the chemistry between the two which made it a very quick read!  I would recommend this to those who enjoy love stories with more heat/passion.  This is a new adult book so that means it deals with more mature topics versus a young adult book!  Enjoy :)
